Applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain or Citizenship?

During the last few months there has been much confusion regarding the introduction of language and citizenship testing for Indefinite Leave to Remain. All applicants now have to show the Home Office that they have knowledge of the English language and life in the UK.

There are two ways this evidence can be provided:

Life in the UK Test

If you have good reading skills and are above Entry 3 (Speaking and Listening), then you are required to take the computer based test, which consists of 24 questions. These questions are based on information found in ‘Life in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship’. This can be ordered online from: www.tsco.co.uk/bookshop or by telephoning 0870 243 0123.

Or

ESOL and Citizenship course with EMD

You can study at any level, Entry 1, 2 or 3, unlike before when you had to reach Entry 3. The course will focus on Speaking and Listening skills. After completing the course EMD will give you a letter confirming that you have taken this specialist course, as you will need both the letter and your ESOL exam certificate to make your application.

Once you have one of the above certificates you can use it for both your application for Indefinite Leave to Remain and Citizenship.

Remember once you have one of the above certificates you can use it for both your application for Indefinite Leave to Remain and Citizenship.
