Applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain or British Citizenship?
If you are applying, you have to show the Home Office that you have knowledge of the English language and life in the UK. There are two ways this evidence can be provided:
Life in the UK Test
If you have good English skills, then you will take the computer based test, which consists of 24 questions. These questions are based on information found in 'Life in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship'.
ESOL and Citizenship course with EMD
Alternatively, you may be able to study Speaking and Listening within a citizenship context at Entry Level 1, 2 or 3, subject to your initial assessment. If you pass the externally assessed exam, you will receive a letter from EMD and a certificate from a national awarding body approved by the Home Office. You will need originals of both the letter and the certificate when making your application for Indefinite Leave to remain and British Citizenship.
