The Future of British Citizenship? |
Over the last few years Government has made fundamental changes to the immigration system. Arguably, none of these reforms have made it easier to move to Britain. Now there are proposals that will take these reforms a stage further, to replace the old idea of citizenship with a new concept of earned citizenship.
The government is consulting to hear views on a range of topics, including the introduction of a new points test for earned citizenship.
EMD has helped hundreds of people with their “ESOL & Citizenship” courses and will be making our own contribution to the consultation process.
The consultation is open for 12 weeks from 3 August 2009, and anyone is entitled to comment. You can send your response direct by completing an online response form at the UKBA website or visit their consultations section to download the consultation document, a printable response form and impact assessments of the proposals.
All responses have to be in no later than midnight on 26 October 2009.
