Our specialist advisors understand the barriers that prevent this from happening and provide tailored one-to-one support to meet YOUR individual needs helping YOU to acquire new skills that will improve YOUR employment and learning opportunities.

We can help you to achieve this through putting together a bespoke individualised “START AGAIN” pack which can include:

Our “pick and mix” offer includes identifying what barriers are stopping you from reaching your potential. This could be personal or social or may be that you do not know what you are good at or how you can use the skills that you have or gain new ones.

Alternatively, you may have already identified where you want to get to but don’t know how to start the journey.   Help with creating a new CV, writing covering letters, searching and applying for work or improving your interview skills to boost your confidence are available to help you “START AGAIN”.

EMD UK Ltd have strong links with many local and national employers and can offer in most instances a Guaranteed Job Interview following training or re training in a relevant vocational qualification.

EMD’s Security, Maths and English Sector Based Work Academy
The course is 4 weeks long, Monday-Thursday 9.30-4.30 with Work Experience Opportunities in the evenings and Weekends.

All learners will complete;

  • Functional Skills Maths and English (at the appropriate level from Entry Level 1 to Level 2)
  • Level 2 Award in Door Supervision
  • Level 2 Emergency First Aid in the Workplace
  • Work Experience
  • An Interview in the Security Sector

Via a referral from your advisor at Job Centre Plus, who may also provide extra support including finance for uniform, SIA licences and travel expenses to and from the training you can attend EMD’s SBWA which is designed to focus on getting you into work, starting or continuing a career in the security industry.

The Employers 

We work closely with employers who have regular input into the course content and all Functional Skills classes are designed around giving you the maths and English skills needed to work effectively in the security industry. Employers come to visit you during the SBWA and are delighted with the staff that they have taken on as a result of the courses EMD has provided to date.
We work with several leading security firms including some who are the biggest independent events staff providers in the UK, with work opportunities ranging from small community events to more complex events, held at the UK’s largest and most prestigious venues, crowd management planning and all safety and security related positions. We work closely with employers’ recruitment teams to provide high quality, fully trained staff.

The Job Role

We prepare learners to work in all areas of the security industry, with many varied job roles including Door Supervisors, Event Security, Site Security, Concierge Security, Events Supervisors, Team Leaders etc.
The rate of pay is from £6.80 up to £12.00 depending on experience and SIA status. Hours are dependable on ability to travel, flexibility etc.

Work Experience

You will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and meet with employers during work experience. Recent events have included learners providing stewarding support at Concerts including Bon Jovi, Robbie Williams, Jennifer Lopez, Boxing Events, The British Touring Car Championships, V Festival, Mint Festival.
Learners who completed the SBWA in December are now employed by Show and Event and have had regular work including the New Year’s Eve countdown on London Bridge, where current learners also did work experience and got to meet previous learners now in employment.
Upcoming events in 2014 include the Commonwealth games, V Fest, Leeds Fest, The Isle of Wight Festival, Download, Mint Festival, Skyrides in Bradford, Birmingham, Birmingham Marathon and many more!
